Human Rights and Fair Trade

Fair Trade was born as an alternative to unequal commercial relations between the North and South, which causes poverty in the world’s developing nations. This in turn forces its inhabitants to play the role of cheap labor or of cultivators of products destined for exportation with ever-decreasing prices, thus rendering it impossible to maintain a decent standard of living.

Fair Trade’s main aim is to guarantee producers in the South fair prices, fair wages, and decent working conditions, while at the same time ensuring low environmental impact.

Some organizations which exist to support these objectives are:

World Health Organization (WHO)

EFTA (European Fair Trade Association (EFTA) to promote products from the South in the EU

GEPA (Germany) for the organically cultivated products

OS3 (Switzerland) for the cultivation of cocoa and chocolate

Fair Trade Organization (FTO, The Netherlands) for coffee cultivation

GRUPO PLIMON seeks to do everything possible in order to guarantee that the activities carried out by the companies forming part of the group are in accordance with the criteria defined by those organizations in favor of Fair Trade.
